Breeding and caring for high-quality dogs is expensive, and that's where our training and retail businesses come into play. They support our breeding efforts by helping us cover the costs associated with raising these exceptional animals.

Who are we?

Dr. Stephanie Yue Cottee is a dog lover and animal behaviourist (PhD), and Jamie Uson is a devoted German Shepherd handler and professional trainer.  Jamie and Steph met at their local protection training club and soon discovered they share a common love for the old school, functional Working Line German Shepherd. Both Jamie and Steph are passionate learners and dog trainers who, after spending years in the dog breeding and training communities, noticed a general lack of knowledge about the breed and even less knowledge about how to effectively train a dog to the point where you see noticeable and lasting results.  Together, leaning heavily on Dr. Stephanie’s expertise in animal behavior and genetics, they developed a breeding program and opened Black Kraken K9, a family breeder whose program aims to fill that void by offering discerning clients a top quality, healthy, purebred dog that has the genetic potential to do high caliber work - protection or sport - while giving our dogs the best possible start in life by putting them through a behavioural development program designed to help each puppy reach its true potential.  All that, packaged in the handsome, sleek, dark, good looks customary of the dogs from Black Kraken kennels.
